Ultrasonic parts cleaning is accomplished by introducing high frequency sound waves into a tank of cleaning liquid by means of a series of transducers mounted to the tank. The sound waves travel throughout the tank and creates waves of compression and expansion in the liquid. In the expansion wave, water molecules are rapidly pulled away from the surface of the work piece, creating microscopic cavitation “bubbles”. These short-lived bubbles are actually a vacuum, and as the individual bubbles collapse the fluid around each bubble rushes in very rapidly. This violent collapse  provides a very intense scrubbing action at the molecular level, which acts to clean the parts. This scrubbing action exists throughout the cleaning bath. When utilizing detergents designed for an ultrasonic cleaning application, excellent results can be produced.
